SHOULD YOUR SMOKE ALARM BE REPLACED?

Did you know that both hardwired and battery operated smoke alarms are manufactured to Australian Standard 3786. This specifies that they are required to effectively perform for 10 years?

After 10 years, the build up of dust, insects, airborne contaminants and electrical corrosion will diminish your smoke alarms ability to perform.

All smoke alarms have a date of manufacture or an expiry date. These may be part of the batch or serial number located on the smoke alarm. Contact the smoke alarm manufacturer or
supplier with these details if you are not sure of the age of your smoke alarm.

If a date cannot be found and you do not know when the alarm was installed, it is probably time to replace your smoke alarm.
